II. History of development:  

Established in 1969

Heads of department since the establishment :

-         1969 to 1985: Dr. Ngo Thien Nhiem

-         1985 to 1994: Dr. Bui Duc Phong

-         1995 to 1998: Dr. Tran Thi Nga

-         1999 up to now:  Dr. Nguyen Hong Diep

Achievement

-     Awarded the title: "Socialist department" (currently titled as: "excellent department") for many years.

-     Certificate for excellent achievement and fulfillment of the government plan as well as other medical missions was awarded by the Ministry of Health

 III. Main activities:  

Outreach activities: To support different health care levels in the improvement of the quality of child care and play advisory role for Ministry of Health in making strategic plan of the development pediatric net work by: 

·     Survey and assessment of the activities of the pediatric network in the whole country

·     Survey the disease pattern in children at different health care levels 

·     Train health workers who are involved in pediatric care

Research activity

·     Managing and monitoring the implementation of the research projects of national, Ministry of Health and Hospital levels

·     Assisting research activities at different health care levels

·     Organizing regular scientific report meeting at NIP

 Training and education activities

·     Organizing and managing national and international training courses and seminars at NIP

·     Arranging study visits for local and international individual medical staff to upgrade their knowledge and skills in pediatrics at NIP

·     Performing training undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as in-service training in cooperation with Pediatric faculty Hanoi Medical school and National Health Programmes

     IV. National and international cooperation:

  National cooperation: with various national health programmes such as: Nutrition, Breastfeeding, CDD, IMCI, ARI, Communication and health education

  International cooperation: WHO, UNICEF, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne Australia, Allianz Mission (Germany) and REI (USA)
