I. Staffing:

          The department is staffed with 19 members including 3 doctors of the pediatric faculty of Hanoi Medical College. Of the 19 members, there is one professor, one Ph.Dr, one doctor of second degree specialty, 3 masters, 10 nurses and 3 nurse-aids.

II. Development process:

The department was jointly established in 1969 with the Nephrology Unit headed by Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh.

Since 1981, it has become the clinical hematology department of which the director is professor Nguyen Cong Khanh.

III. Assignments and activities:

The department has 50 inpatient beds and assumes the role to treat patients with infectious and epidemic diseases such as Japanese encephalitis, meningitis viral hepatitis, leptospiria, melania, HIV/AIDS, poliomyelitis, dengue fever etc.

The department has been cooperating with the international vaccine institute on study and control of meningitis type B due to hemophilus influenza in children, and with Japan on viral factors causing childhood meningitis,  and with the central institute of epidemiology on control of measles, poliomyelitis and blood injections.
