I.
Staffing:
The
department is staffed with 18 members of which there are two
doctors of philosophy, one master, 3 doctors, 9 technicians
and 3 nurse-aids.
II.
Development process:
The
department was established in 1981 and successively headed
by
1981
- 1985 : Dr. Nguyen Kim Cuc
1986
- 2002 : Dr. Tran Trong Hai PhD.
Since
2002 : Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha PhD.
III.
Assignments:
The
department has since 1995 become the leading body of
Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine in Vietnam and the
center to train rehabilitation health workers for the
whole country. The department has popularized the
programme on Community-Based Rehabilitation with great
success.
During
the period from 1981 to 1994 and 1998 to 2002, the
department won the Honour Appellation "The Eminent
Work Team" and in 1997 and 1999 was awards with the
Merit-certificates by the Ministry of Health and by the
Government respectively.
IV.
Major activities:
The
department has no inpatient beds.
The
annual outpatient admissions amount to 1500 fortuatment
and 4000 for examination.
Patients
admitted and treated largely suffer from cerebral palsy,
mental retardation, sequelae of poliomyelitis, congenital
bone deformities et.
The
department has been cooperating closely and fruitfully
with local bodies such as the Pediatric Association of
Vietnam, the Neurology Association of Vietnam, the
Orthopedic Societies of Hanoi and Hochiminh Cities, the
medical Colleges of Hanoi, Hue and Hochiminh Cities etc.,
and with international organizations such as : WHO, VVAF,
Holland Committee II. Rada Barnen Sweden, ICCO, Work
Vision International, CRS etc. on training local health
workers and doing research into the optimal management of
problems in term of rehabilitative medicine.
