The
department is staffed with 18 members of which there are 6
doctors (one Ph.D./professor, one Ph.D./associate
professor, two masters, 1 doctor of pediatrics degree II, 1
doctor of pediatrics degree I), 9 nurses and 3 nurse-aid.
The
department was established in 1974 as part of the
hematology department in Bach Mai Hospital.
The
head doctor then was Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh.
Since
1980, the department has become the department for Genito-Urinary
and renal diseases. The Director is Professor PhD Le Nam
Tra.
The
department has 25 beds.
The
department is accountable for dealing with diseases in
children with such diseases as : kidney failure, renal abnormality,
renal tumor, kidney stone, urinary infections, urinary
abnormalities, gallstone etc. both treatment with in the
hospital and the outreach activity at the primary level.
The
department has been doing research into appropriate and
optimal cures of various diseases in children's kidney and
genito-urinary systems.
The
department has been closely cooperating with different
organization inside Vietnam such as the Vietnam Paediatric
Association, the Medical College of Hanoi,
peer-departments in hospitals in Hanoi, and outside
Vietnam such as Vietnam - France Friendship Association of
Renal-Genito-Urinary Science and other professional
organizations in Asia and Pacific Asian Basin.
Professor
Ph.D. Le Nam Tra has become a member of the World
Association of Nephrology since 1995.
