I. Manpower :             

The department is staffed with 30 members of which there are 8 professors and doctors, 18 nurses and 4 nurse-aids.

Professor Nguyen Gia Khanh is now the Director of the department

II. Development process:  

The department was established in 1969 at the same time at the founding of the hospital.

The Director of the department from 1969 to 1981 was Professor Chu Van Tuong, and Professor Nguyen Gia Khanh has as been in the positions since 1981.

 III. Activities:  

The department is accountable for carrying treatment of patients with intestinal diseases such as prolonged diarrhea, gastric bleeding, gastric ulcer, chronic hepatitis, abdominal tumors, obstruction of bile duct etc.

The department is involved in outreach activities such as national health programs on control diarrheal diseases, prevention of accidents or IMCI etc. across the country.

The department has been cooperating closely and effectively with WHO and the Medical University of Hanoi in doing research into the ultimate cure of different intestinal diseases in children.
