5th Liver transplant on 16 year old patient at the National Hospital of Pediatrics
16 year old Ho Tuan Anh from Nghe An province weighing 36 kg, suffering from heritage liver cirrhosis was liver-transplanted on April 7th,2008 at NHP. The donor was his uncle, a 42 year old army officer. The operation began at 8:30am but until 5pm the surgeons in charge were able to remove half the liver of the donor, and until 10pm the performance was completed. It took such a long time for the surgeons to perform the operation because of the fact that the blood vessels in the livers of both the donor and the recipient were abnormal, thus micro surgery had to be performed.
The operation was free of charge and performed by NHP surgeons together with organ transplant experts from the Taiwan Veterans hospital. Patient Ho Tuan Anh and his donor are now in good health.
