5th liver transplanted patient discharged
16-year-old Ho Tuan Anh, the fifth patient with liver transplant was discharged from the National Hospital of Pediatrics on June 25th,2008 in a happy atmosphere of his relations and NHP staff.
Born into a family with 7 persons suffering from congenital blocked gall – bladder and long lasting cirrhosis who all died of the disease and one of whom was his sibling sister. Ten years ago Ho Tuan Anh underwent an operation for increased entrance venous pressure and cirrhosis. He then grew up under close supervision by NHP. However, he had liver failure with dark yellow skin and rashes lately and a liver transplant was determined for him.
The transplant operation performed by Prof. Nguyen Thanh Liem and Taiwanese surgeons lasted 13 hours and was a success. The 42-year-old donor, the patient’s uncle recovered well after the operation.
As for Ho Tuan Anh, he gained 8 kg of weight and no longer had jaundice. His liver now functions almost normally. At discharge, he was moved and said that he would do his best to study in order to become beneficial to society to repay his saviours’ kindness.
