On May 30, 2008, the National Hospital of Pediatrics (NHP) together with Van hoa Online under the Ministry for Culture, Sport, and Tourism opened a so-called “Educational Library for children patients at NHP, just one day prior to the International Children’s Day – June 1st.

As the leading institution of pediatrics in Vietnam, NHP since its founding ahs made great achievements in terms of diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases such as pediatric cardiac intervention, endoscopic surgery, liver transplant, bone marrow transplant, etc…Every year NHP receives more than 42,000 inpatients with serious diseases and in severe condition. Mental and psychological care as well as play therapy are necessary and very helpful to release the pain and uncomfortableness for child patients admitted to the hospital.

Professor Dr Nguyen Thanh Liem, Hero of Labor, Director of NHP stated that the Educational Library for child patients is set up in order to collect books of all sorts for unprivileged children under long-term hospitalization so that they can enjoy actual share in a most effective way.

Recently, thanks to the warm support of Van hoa Online, and NHP Youth’s contributions, a great number of organizations and individuals have enthusiastically collected books as charity to child patients.

Mr Tran Dang Khoa, Editor-in chief of Van hoa Online emphasized: “This charity work of profound humane significance was launched just a moth ago. Anyway, more than 1,000 books of some ten various types has been collected for the Library. This activity within a series of other charity activities launched by Van hoa Online being directed toward disadvantaged people in remote areas. At the opening ceremony of the Library, a music and song performance by Khuong Thuong Elementary school was given to congratulate on the occasion.

The Library is in this initial period located at the Play Therapy Room under regular and close supervision.
